It's the start of October, which means that Elm Street Quilts is reminding me to make another One Monthly Goal!
When we built the de Jong Dream House, it was always our intention that we would open our doors to friends, family, students, coaches, teachers, refugees...anyone needing a place to rest their head. Over the last seven years, I've lost count how many guests we've welcomed, but it's well over 100. This summer alone we hosted my mom (and her dog) on and off since June, six Challenger soccer coaches, one family of five, one incoming University of Akron student, and currently, our very first exchange student, Marissa!

When Marissa leaves this weekend, we will have the house to ourselves for the first time since the first week of June! When Marissa started making her plans to visit us, I asked if she would like to make a quilt. The second quilt I ever made was actually gifted to her when she lived with us in 2013!
She loved the idea and she picked out a pattern before she arrived. She pinned this version of a Jewel Box quilt from Auntie Em of Quilt Crossing.
Mine is coming along, too, though I may stop to help Marissa finish hers before she goes.

While Marissa is making her quilt with scraps of blue, teal, turquoise, and green, I am also making a smaller lap quilt with blue, teal, turquoise, and purple. Mine will be donated to Quilts of Compassion for their Quilts for the Carolines drive. If you aren't aware of the great work this group does, please check out the Facebook page.
We've lost a bit of time to jet lag, a minor surgery for me, and all of the friends who want to see Marissa while she is here, but we have a good start. Marissa is a natural!

June 2017 - no goal
Great quilt with fabulous colors. And thanks for the heads up on Quilts for the Carolinas. We hosted my close friend and quilting buddy, her hubby and dad for a few days while Florence did her thing. Luckily they had only minor damage.
ReplyDeleteGreat quilts! Thanks for linking up with Elm Street Quilts One Monthly Goal and good luck with your project.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your goal, I really like how you've listed your past monthly goals, I might just want to copy that idea.
