Quilt #109 :: Blair 2000

My 109th (!!) quilt was a quick commission. I've done only a very, very few commissions because part of what I love about quilting is coming up with an idea. If someone asks for something in particular, it feels more like work.

That said, when our neighbor asked if I would help his mom out with a quilt, I was happy to say yes because our sons are such good friends. The boys met when we were building our house in 2011 and have played together at least once a week ever since. And more than a few times, Brandon and Emily have helped me out on bad brain days. So it was a no brainer to help out with this quilt.

Our neighbor's mom, Judy, wanted to make a graduation quilt for her grandson, who was part of the class of 2018. He was born in 2000. 2000! That kind of blows my mind. It really doesn't seem all that long ago that everyone was worried about the computers crashing as the clock struck midnight on January 1, 2000. But the world moved on and Joann made fabric to celebrate the new millennium.

Judy had some of this nearly-vintage fabric in both blue and white and wondered if I could use it in the quilt. There was just enough for the backing and binding

When she dropped off the material for the quilt, she had already cut out the t-shirts, which were fused to interfacing. That part can be really tricky, but she did a great job. It made everything else super simple. All I had to do was piece the blocks, quilt, bind, and add the label. Enough that I'm calling it quilt #109 for my count, but Judy gets design credit and her name on the label.

At this point, I was still recovering from the six memory quilts I made, so it was nice to have an easy finish to get back my mojo--or would that be sew-jo?

  2. Was it your son reading Arlo Finch? I just finished it and can hardly wait for the next one in the spring. LOL What a wonderful quilt project. Those boys look like two peas in a pod. =)

  3. Yep, it's wonderful to have an easy quilt once in a while. And she made it all the more so by trimming and facing those tshirts for you! Thanks for linking to Wednesday Wait Loss.
